Angels and demons comes under the thriller genre by its central characters. The main character, played by Tom Hanks, Professor Robert Langdon gives off a mysterious form. He is a Professor from Harvard university who studies the art of symbolism. Professor Robert Langdon and Vittora Vetra has been asked to help the vatican to solve the illuminati threat. The fast pace situation that the characters are placed under gives you a sense of the time that they have to solve this crime out. One thing that seem unusal is that they have brought the facts of god and the facts of science and the facts of a non-believer together as one.
the main character fits into a tradition of action heroes as being intelligent and unwittingly thrust into a new role as an action hero; a bit like like the indiana jones franchise. he is male, which is typical, but is realtively normal, not with huge biceps or the ability to crush a man;s face in his bare hands. he has a female sidekick, she is also a scientist and is not a real stunner, or bond girl type, but more cerebral. this suggest that the film makers may be aiming at a mainstream sudience, but perhaps more mature.
the mise-en-scene of the film is in particularly old, in historical buildings; this conforms to the action adventure genre, but also is a thriller insofaras there is a sense of fear and tension, unexpected death and chase sequences which unsettle the audeince. the film is quite dark, moodily lit, with lots of light and shadow creating a sense of corners and things being hidden - it is not open, there are lots of interiors shots, again in old churches, and people are frequently hidden behind things to conceal their identity, it even has a secret passage at the end.
the score is orchestral and accompaines the action, raising the level of tension through drumbeats and things that increase in pace when the action accelerates. typical narrative set-pieces include a chase sequence, and a narrative that increases in tension, following the theory of equilibrium - disequilibrium - equilibrium. (Fine- Unsettled - Fine)
The next film that is classed under a thriller is Jumper. The main character, David, played by Haden Christensen is a typical action/super hero. He has super powers which are unusal to normal people. This movie does include real people aswell, creating a sense of seperate groups between David and the real humans. David is a well built, model like man, which is typical of a super hero who is soposed to be an amazing, unusal and special person. He isn't like spiderman where he is a normal guy who turns into a superhero, he is born with the powers.
His mum walks out on him as she is a paladin, they kill the jumpers, so he is left to fend for himself. He is attended by a sidekick who is also a jumper, it is odd to him as he thought he was the only one. He also doesn't know that his mum is a paladin, and thinks that she doesn't care about him but she is protecting him as paladin are soposed to kill jumpers.
The mise-en-scene is set all over the world, this gives us a sense that it is a action film but it is also set under the thriller genre as they are constantly under threat from the paladins and chase scenesby the jumper and a unexpected car chase scene as the jumper has to hide his identity.
The film is quite dark but bright when they are in the day light, they are mainly set at night or under a cave, shelter etc as their hiding place.
The music is score orchestral but also they have taken original sound tracks for the credit and for certain slow scenes and romantic scenes. They also use more impacted songs that give off a higher tention when they are in a fight or car chase scene.

Media Consumption
Hi my name is Paige, my dominant form of media consumption is Television! I mainly watch Television series such as Friends and The Big Bang Theroy. The characters in both series are great at what they do, mainly Mathew Perry who plays Chandler in friends, he knows how to keep a straight face and make people laugh.
I would watch at least two of these types of programmes a day, consisting of two episodes.
I prefer a comedy series than a romantic or action series as it makes me laugh! Duh
Before i got a laptop i would have just watched programmes on Tv but now i have one i sometimes catch up on programmes on iplayer, youtube and itv player.
I like listening to music in my spare but i mainly use the music channel on tv or my laptop. I like all sorts of music it just depends on what i want to listen to at the time. My favourite artists are people like Sean kingston, Cobra Starship, Motion city, Bombay bicycle club, mumford and sons, Miley Cyrus and many more.
I would say that i listen to music more often, now that i am at sixth form as we have free lessons to do our school work so i would listen to music whilst i am working.
Television plays a big part of my life as i like to know what is going on in the world via the news. I prefer to watch Itv news as they talk more informal than formal so everyone can understand it. BBC present the news to a much older audience who like the discuss current issues in more depth.
